Merryl Neille is fast becoming a world-renowned flutist and teacher.

She has performed with symphony orchestras and ensembles in Canada, South Africa, Amsterdam and the United States. Formerly principal flutist of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Merryl has performed professionally in a range of musical settings from ballet and opera to commercial studio work. She was a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony flute section for two years. Her performance career has taken her to Switzerland, Germany, Amsterdam, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Azerbaijan and Australia.

From 2015-2018, Merryl was doctoral assistant to Amy Porter at the University of Michigan, where she received the Rackham Graduate Scholarship to complete her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance. During her time in the USA, Merryl gave masterclasses to students of the Michigan Youth Ensemble, Amy Porter’s Anatomy of Sound Workshop and the MPulse Flute Institute. She was a music lecturer at Adrian and Jackson Colleges in Michigan. In 2018, Merryl was invited back to her home country of South Africa to be on the faculty of the Gauteng Chamber Music Festival, where she performed, gave intensive technique classes and conducted ensembles.

Merryl recently moved to Sydney, Australia, where she is pursuing permanent residency.
