We are delighted to welcome Lecturer in Voice and operatic sensation Shelli Hulcombe to our team of incredibly talented master clinicians.

Shelli Hulcombe is a Lecturer in Voice at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University. She grew up in regional NSW, where she learnt piano from an early age (followed by violin, flute and oboe) before finally discovering a love of singing as a teenager.

Completing both a Bachelor of Music (Hons) and a Graduate Diploma in Opera at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Shelli furthered her studies in the UK at the Royal Northern College of Music. Other qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Music (Sydney University) and a Masters of Music Studies majoring in Vocal Pedagogy (Griffith University).

Shelli has performed a wide range of operatic roles with leading Australian companies such as Opera Queensland, Opera Australia and Pinchgut Opera. On the concert stage she has performed as soloist with the Queensland, Melbourne and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Camerata of St John’s, Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra and Queensland Pops Orchestra. Shelli was an inaugural member of the highly acclaimed chamber choir Cantillations. With them, she recorded several CDs (ABC Classics), including Carmina BuranaThe Messiah (also released on DVD), Voice of the Angel, and Sacred Music of the Renaissance. Other recordings include Semele (ABC Classics) and Artico Ensemble. In recent years, she has enjoyed a new focus on chamber music, performing regularly with quartet Ensemble Entourage and as guest artist with several other ensembles.

A passionate music educator, Shelli regularly adjudicates at many of the major eisteddfods around South East Queensland and is an examiner for AMEB. She is also a regular performer in the Musica Viva in Schools music education program, and is currently President of the Queensland chapter of ANATS (Australian Association of Teachers of Singing).

We have every faith Shelli will provide many valuable tips and tricks for aspiring young musicians in our Festival masterclasses.
